Canadian Singer-Songwriter JP Sunga Releases New Track, “In My Bones”

Toronto-born independent singer-songwriter JP Sunga passes his time crafting his own brand of pop music, sometimes referred to as “alternative soul.” JP first took the spotlight with the release of his 2002 breakout song “Operator,” one of many tunes in his songwriter catalogue spanning over two decades.

A natural performer, JP has wowed audiences all across Ontario with his live performances, though after some time the Waterloo-based musician felt it was necessary to put his musical aspirations on hold after creating a life away from music. Though family has become his biggest priority in recent years, he never lost sight of his passion for music and has always wished to build on his notable success in the early 2000s.

Produced by local Waterloo music producer Sam Hillifer (Sundiver, Will Currie & The Country French), “In My Bones” is JP’s first release of 2021. The upbeat, pop-fused track is an exploration of what can happen when you silence the deafening sounds of self-doubt. Written in part as an affirmation to himself and as a legacy song for his three kids. JP’s “In My Bones” is his musical expression of the feeling of being driven to pursue your passions, and answering the call.

JP shares on “In My Bones,”

“Sometimes we get in the way of ourselves when pursuing our own goals or dreams. ‘In My Bones’ is about finally surrendering to the idea that you WILL achieve what your heart knows you are fully capable of achieving. It is essentially an anthem that celebrates overcoming self-doubt.”

Pushing through his hesitations about writing music, recording songs, and performing live, JP has freed himself from the prison of doubt, realizing he and ONLY he holds the key, after mustering up the strength to find confidence in oneself. “Out of touch and out of reach, I just wanted to be free / all this time I held the key.”

A passion is what gets you started, a purpose is what keeps you going. For JP, his passion for music has shone a light on a newfound purpose – to prove to himself and others that no matter your age or stage in life, you can and should continue to pursue anything you feel called to do. It all starts in your bones.
